Forces

Bolt Action 3rd Edition is upon us and the force structure has changed from fielding one platoon (in general) to a company sized force of multiple platoons. For this tournament each player is must bring a force consisting of three companies - a brigade - from the Bolt Action Third Edition rulebook including any relevant FAQs & Errata published in regards to version three. Players have the option of bringing three copies of the same company and playing it for all three rounds, or 2 - 3 different companies and playing a different one each round. Whatever you decide, you must play each list at least once.

Example: John brings one company and will play that company for all three rounds. Rich brings two companies and must play both of them at least once. Joe brings three companies and must play a different one each round.

Each company can cost no more than 1250 points and have a maximum of 19 order dice plus one additional dice if you bring a Company Commander.

The following rule & conditions are in effect:

  • There are no limits to the amount of platoons in a company.
  • Players may use only one company per round.
  • Proxy models must be made clear and be the proper size / scale.
  • We will use the latest FAQ and errata rulings.

Restrictions

  • Only two bombardments or air attacks from forward observers per player each game.
  • A maximum of two rocket artillery units per list.
  • Outflanking can only be done on the Key Positions mission.

Schedule

The date for this event is November 9th 2024. Each game will last 2.5 hours. Tables, missions, and opponents will be assigned by e-mail updates prior to the event.

Missions will be announced prior to the tournament in an e-mail.

Scoring

Players will score points in a number of ways: by accomplishing objectives and killing enemy units. The maximum amount of points a player can earn in one round is 25 with a bonus of another 5 points for winning their game. After three the best score a player can have is 90, plus bonus points for early list submission (see below) and other ways we'll go into later via e-mails.

Rankings

This is an individual player tournament and will rank players by points scored by the method described above. The winners will be officially recognized tournament winners by Warlord games for the tri-state (NY, NJ, and CT) region.

  • Winner - Round 1
  • Winner - Round 2
  • Winner - Round 3
  • Overall Winner

Best Coast Pairings

Want to get nationally ranked? We have that too! All of our results will be recorded - even those who only play one game - for anyone who has a Best Coast Pairings account. BCP will be used by Warlord for other events, so it's good to get on the record now!

Bonus Points for Early List Submission

Lists are due by midnight on November 8th, however, if you get your list to me by the morning of November 5th you will start the tournament with +5 bonus points. This will help me check the lists in a timely fashion.

Match-up System

Players will be matched using the Swiss Pairing system. The player with the most points at the end of round one will be matched against the player with the second highest score, and so on.

Prizes

Warlord Games has generously provided us with several unique figures, certificates, and a good amount of Warlord products to award to tournament participants. Our group will also provide additional prizes for this event. More details will be available on the day of the tournament.

Code of Conduct

The following is a list of what is expected of players during the event. We want to make sure as little time as possible is lost and more time is available to play the games.

  • Language: players must be able to speak enough English to complete a full game with no major translation issues.
  • Slow Play: players are expected to complete a minimum of 5 turns during games.
  • Rules Queries: any rules / LOS debates / odd scenarios that cannot be quickly cleared up via the rulebook, please call the Tournament Organizer over immediately.
  • Dice Etiquette: please ensure all dice rolls are done on an open section of the board, or dice tray, in full view of your opponent. Any dice that hits the floor will be re-rolled.
  • Order Dice Etiquette: please ensure all order dice are placed next to their activated units, with the correct order showing. For example, we do not want arguments about a unit benefitting from being Down, when their order dice incorrectly shows a rally order.
  • Terrain: a document that details how each terrain type works will be released separately.
  • Referee Rulings: During a query referees will listen to both sides of the argument and come up with a decision based on the evidence. Once a decision has been made both players are to accept that ruling.
  • After Game: Once a game has been completed, players are to record their scores, hand them to the Tournament Organizer.
