The Western Campaign

Forces

Each player is allowed to bring two platoons: you must bring an infantry platoon of up to 1100 points and may bring a tank platoon of up to 1250 points, both with a maximum of 15 order dice. If a player chooses to not create a tank platoon they can add +100 points of fortifications only to be used when facing a tank platoon. Certain theater selectors are allowed (see the link below).

All units must come from the Armies of XXX, Tank Wars, Germany Strikes, or Battle of France campaign book. Please do not show up with your 1944 marquis squad from the D-Day: US Sector book.

Forces from the following countries are allowed for play:

  • France
  • Great Britain
  • Norway
  • Belgium
  • Denmark
  • The Netherlands
  • Soviet Union
  • Finland
  • Germany
  • Italy

Here is the full breakdown of all the units and selectors to make a valid list for this event.

The following rule & conditions are in effect:

  • No assault rifles, rocket launchers, or any other weapon not in general service in 1940.
  • No rocket artillery, War Correspondents, or Special Characters.
  • Horse Transports / Tows, Medics, Field Ambulances, and Chaplains are allowed.
  • Proxy models must be made clear and be the proper size / scale.
  • We will use the latest FAQ and errata rulings.

The store will open early for us around 9 am. We will be conducting early tournament check-in at that time.

Italian Forces

With the recent publication of Case Blue and the changes to the Slovakian and Italian forces, players will be able to use the new national rules from that book.

Missions

This is being run as a tournament with a mini-campaign theme. We will be playing combined arms: Bolt Action, Victory at Sea, and Blood Red Skies if there's interest in the last two!

Missions will be announced prior to the tournament in an e-mail.

Note: No one is required to play anything but Bolt Action & Bolt Action: Tank Wars. The other games are voluntary but there will be extra rewards for doing so.

Scoring

Players will score points in a number of ways: by capturing & accomplishing objectives, killing enemy units, and earning bonus points for spending a turn helping your allies in the air or at sea. The maximum amount of points a player can earn in one round is 25 with a bonus of another 5 points for winning their game. After three the best score a player can have is 90, plus bonus points for early list submission (see below) and other ways we'll go into later via e-mails.

Rankings

This is an individual player tournament but players will be part of either Axis or Allied teams, and rankings will be sorted based on your score and that of your other team members as well as your opponents.

  • Best Overall Commander
  • Best Allied Commander
  • Best Axis Commander
  • Best Painted Army
  • Best Table
  • Best Sportsman
  • Bloodlust (Most Enemies Killed)
  • Wooden Spoon

Bonus Points for Early List Submission

Lists are due by midnight on May 14th, however, if you get your list to me by the morning of May 10th you will start the tournament with +5 bonus points. Not only does this help me check the lists in a timely fashion, but May 10th is also the anniversary of the start of The Battle of France.

Match-up System

Players will be sorted into Axis and Allied teams and face opponents of the opposing side. There will be more information about specific pairing as the tournament gets closer.

Prizes

Warlord Games has generously provided us with several unique figures, certificates, and a good amount of Warlord products to award to tournament participants. Our group will also provide additional prizes for this event. More details will be available on the day of the tournament.

Code of Conduct

The following is a list of what is expected of players during the event. We want to make sure as little time as possible is lost and more time is available to play the games.

  • Language: players must be able to speak enough English to complete a full game with no major translation issues.
  • Slow Play: players are expected to complete a minimum of 5 turns during games.
  • Rules Queries: any rules / LOS debates / odd scenarios that cannot be quickly cleared up via the rulebook, please call the Tournament Organizer over immediately.
  • Dice Etiquette: please ensure all dice rolls are done on an open section of the board, or dice tray, in full view of your opponent. Any dice that hits the floor will be re-rolled.
  • Order Dice Etiquette: please ensure all order dice are placed next to their activated units, with the correct order showing. For example, we do not want arguments about a unit benefitting from being Down, when their order dice incorrectly shows a rally order.
  • Terrain: a document that details how each terrain type works will be released separately.
  • Referee Rulings: During a query referees will listen to both sides of the argument and come up with a decision based on the evidence. Once a decision has been made both players are to accept that ruling.
  • After Game: Once a game has been completed, players are to record their scores, hand them to the Tournament Organizer.
